SWOT Analysis Mind Map Template

The SWOT Analysis mind map template puts strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in four clear quadrants around your central subject — a company, a product, or even yourself. Fill the quadrants, then read the map diagonally to find your strategy.

What to put on a SWOT map

Keep the four quadrants strictly separated: internal and helpful (strengths), internal and harmful (weaknesses), external and helpful (opportunities), external and harmful (threats). The discipline is what produces insight — most bad SWOTs are bad because they put a threat in the strengths box.

Then add one short branch that no textbook SWOT has: "so what". Pick the two combinations that matter — usually a strength you can use against a named threat — and write the move. A SWOT with no "so what" is a list, and lists do not change anything.

Where SWOT maps go wrong

Writing adjectives instead of facts. "Strong brand" is unverifiable; "customers renew unprompted" is. The other mistake is treating all four quadrants as equally urgent — a realistic SWOT is lopsided, and if yours looks tidy and balanced, you have probably been generous with strengths.

Editing on the canvas

Every node is editable: double-click to rename, Tab and Enter to build structure, drag branches to reorder, and one click applies a theme. Changes autosave to your browser. If you want the full walkthrough first, read how to make a mind map, or open the mind map maker and start from a blank canvas.

Exporting and sharing

Export as PNG, PDF or SVG — watermark-free, no account. Exporting as JSON instead keeps the full structure, so you can re-import and carry on later.

FAQ

How do I run a SWOT analysis with a mind map?

Put the subject in the center. Fill Strengths and Weaknesses with internal factors you control, then Opportunities and Threats with external ones. The four branches stay visible at once, which is the point of SWOT.

What is the best way to use the completed SWOT map?

Read the diagonals: strengths × opportunities shows where to attack, weaknesses × threats shows what to defend. Many teams add a fifth "Next actions" branch with items from this reading.

Can I use the SWOT template for personal planning?

Yes. Put your name or career goal in the center and treat the quadrants the same way — skills and gaps inside, market trends and risks outside. It is a common career-planning exercise.
