About Mind Map Online

By Duy Nguyen · Founder & developer · Last reviewed: September 26, 2026

Mind Map Online is a free mind map maker that runs entirely in your browser. Open the page, start mapping, export when you're done — no account, no watermark, and your maps never leave your device. It exists because the popular tools either cap your free boards, watermark your exports, or force you to sign up before you've made anything.

The project started in 2026 as a weekend build and grew into a focused product: a clean canvas, one-click aesthetic themes (Notion Minimal, Study Pastel, Cyberpunk Dark), four auto-layouts, keyboard-first editing, and 21 free templates for study, work, and planning. Image and video nodes let a map hold a photo or a clip alongside the text, and every node can carry its own notes and link.

Privacy by design

Your maps are stored in your browser's local storage. They are never uploaded, never synced to a cloud, and never readable by us — that is the core promise: no login, no cloud storage, your maps stay on your device.

Two things do leave your browser, and we are upfront about both: aggregate analytics that tells us which pages are visited, and advertising cookies once ads are shown. What is collected, and how to opt out, is set out in our Privacy Policy.

How it is built

The editor is a static, pre-rendered site with an interactive canvas on top, so pages load without a server round trip and the tool still feels immediate. It is tested on real phones and laptops — not only on a desktop monitor — because a mind map is often the thing you sketch on a train. Exports are generated in your browser too, which is why a finished map can leave as a PDF, PNG, SVG, or JSON file without anything being uploaded.

What's free

  • Unlimited mind maps, no board limits
  • All 21 templates and all 6 aesthetic themes
  • Watermark-free export: PDF, PNG, SVG, and JSON
  • Image nodes, video nodes, per-node notes and links
  • JSON import and export, undo/redo that survives refresh, collapse/expand branches, multiple maps

Who's behind it

Mind Map Online is built and maintained by Duy Nguyen, an independent developer who has spent years building browser tools and wanted a mind map that respects attention and privacy. There is no team, no investors, and no growth team deciding which feature to put behind a paywall — just one person shipping what users ask for.

What's next

The roadmap is shaped by feedback. Recent additions — image and video nodes, JSON import/export, and ten interface languages — all came from user requests. If a feature would help your studies or your work, say so; the contact page goes straight to the person writing the code.
