What to put on a trip map

Centre the dates, then branch into transport, stays, days and money. Under days, write one line per day with a single anchor — the one thing that day is for — rather than a full itinerary; anchors survive delays, itineraries do not. Under money, put the fixed costs you have already paid, so the daily budget is honest.

Keep a "booked vs still to book" split inside every branch. It is the fastest way to see what is actually at risk of being forgotten, and it stops the trap of booking the fun parts while the transport stays unconfirmed.

Where trip maps go wrong

Over-planning the days. A schedule with no slack turns one late train into a lost afternoon. The other mistake is scattering documents — confirmations, addresses, phone numbers — instead of parking them under the branch they belong to, where you can find them without a signal.

Editing on the canvas

Every node is editable: double-click to rename, Tab and Enter to build structure, drag branches to reorder, and one click applies a theme. Changes autosave to your browser. If you want the full walkthrough first, read how to make a mind map, or open the mind map maker and start from a blank canvas.

Exporting and sharing

Export as PNG, PDF or SVG — watermark-free, no account. Exporting as JSON instead keeps the full structure, so you can re-import and carry on later.

FAQ

What should a trip planning mind map include?

Start with the trip name, then branch per destination or day. Under each, list activities, budget items, and practical notes (transfers, booking references, opening hours). Add a general budget and packing branch for the whole trip.

Is a mind map a good replacement for a travel spreadsheet?

For planning, yes — you see the route and daily structure at a glance. Export the finished map as PNG on your phone or PDF for printing; both work offline.

Can I keep the map updated during the trip?

Yes. Your browser saves every change, so add dinner spots or train times as you discover them and the map stays current.
