Interview Prep Mind Map Template
The Interview Prep mind map template prepares both directions of the conversation: what you need to know about the role, what you bring to it, questions to ask them, and STAR stories ready to deploy. Build it the night before, export it, and review it on the way in.

STAR Stories
What to put on an interview map
Branch into the role, your stories, their likely questions, and your questions back. Under stories, keep four or five situations in a fixed shape — situation, what you did, what changed — because a story you have told twice can be bent to almost any question asked.
The questions-back branch is the one candidates prepare last and it is often the one that decides the outcome. Write three that prove you have thought about the team’s actual problem, not three about holiday policy.
Where interview maps go wrong
Memorising answers. Word-for-word answers sound rehearsed and break the moment the question is phrased differently; a story you know the shape of bends instead. The other failure is never writing down their questions afterwards — the second interview for the same kind of role is much easier if you kept the first list.
Editing on the canvas
Every node is editable: double-click to rename, Tab and Enter to build structure, drag branches to reorder, and one click applies a theme. Changes autosave to your browser. If you want the full walkthrough first, read how to make a mind map, or open the mind map maker and start from a blank canvas.
Exporting and sharing
Export as PNG, PDF or SVG — watermark-free, no account. Exporting as JSON instead keeps the full structure, so you can re-import and carry on later.

FAQ
How do I prepare for an interview with a mind map?
Put Interview Prep in the center. Research the role (job description, company background), map your fit (strengths, weaknesses you are working on), draft questions to ask, and write three STAR stories — Situation, Action, Result — for your strongest achievements.
What is a STAR story in interview prep?
STAR stands for Situation, Action, Result — the structure recruiters expect for behavioural answers. Prepare one story per skill on your resume so any question maps back to a concrete example.
Can I take the interview map with me?
Export it as a PDF cheat sheet, or keep the map open on your phone. A one-page map is faster to scan in a waiting room than pages of notes.
