JSON to Mind Map

Turn structured JSON data into a visual mind map — or export any map as JSON.

Quick answer: Mind Map Online reads .json files with nodes and edges arrays and rebuilds your map with full styles, and exports any map back to JSON. Free, no login, no watermark.

How it works

  1. Create a map on the canvas, or prepare a JSON file with nodes and edges.
  2. To export: press Export → JSON to download your file.
  3. To import: press the Upload button and choose your .json file — or drag it onto the canvas.
  4. Branches, colors, fonts and layout are restored instantly.

Minimal JSON the importer accepts:

{\n  "nodes": [\n    { "id": "n1", "data": { "label": "Project Plan" } },\n    { "id": "n2", "data": { "label": "Research" } }\n  ],\n  "edges": [\n    { "source": "n1", "target": "n2" }\n  ]\n}

Tip: every node needs a unique id, and every edge links source → target by those ids.

FAQ

What JSON format does the importer accept?

An object with a nodes array (each with id and data.label) and an edges array (each with source and target). Position, style, theme and layout are optional extras.

Can I write the JSON by hand?

Yes. A hand-written file with two nodes and one edge imports as a valid map — handy for generating maps from scripts and data.

Does JSON keep my styles and theme?

Yes. Colors, fonts, corner radius, edge styles, theme and layout are all preserved, so a round-trip looks identical.

When should I use JSON instead of PNG or PDF?

Use JSON for backup, editing and data exchange. Use PNG, PDF or JSON when you need to share or print a static image.
